Clubs for Cubs
Art
The art club is sponsored by Mrs. Kanter, Ms. Seaman, and Ms. McGrath. Students will complete fun art activities and service projects. After school meetings will be held one Monday per month, until 4:30 p.m. Members will need transportation. Interested students must fill out an application and pay a $5.00 fee. Please see your art teacher for an application.
Boys to Men
The Boys to Men club is sponsored by Mr. Freeman. Boys to men participate in activities that build character and make a positive contribution in school and the community. Members are selected by grade level counselors. You may indicate your interest for next year by signing the club interest sheet located in your homeroom.
Builders Club
The builder’s club is sponsored by (TBA) The mission of the Builder’s Club is to build leaders by providing leadership opportunities on campus. Some activities include recycling and working with the SCA on the Thanksgiving food drive. Other aspects of the club will be to learn some parliamentary procedures, elect officers for this year and next, and have a little fun. Members will meet during DIRECTED STUDY every 2nd Friday. All students are encouraged to join.
Community Service
The community service club is sponsored by Kim Keso. Members will work on community service activities for non-profit organizations. Students will also work to increase awareness of community service opportunities available to all students at BMS. Community service club will meet monthly during DIRECTED STUDY on the second Friday of each month. All students are encouraged to join.
FBLA
The Future Business Leaders of America club is sponsored by Mrs. Bailey. Students will explore careers and interact with professionals in the community. Members will also be given opportunities to visit churches and hospitals, as well as read to students with severe disabilities. Meetings will be on 2nd Friday of each month during DIRECTED STUDY. All students enrolled in a computer course are encouraged to sign-up for this club.
FCCLA
The Family and Career Leaders of America is sponsored by Mrs. N. Williams. Members work on school fundraisers and increasing awareness about nutrition and disease prevention. Membership to the national association is mandatory and cost $12.00. Students will meet every other Friday during DIRECTED STUDY.
Forensics
The forensics club is sponsored by Ms. Seals. The focus of this club is to provide opportunities for students to develop public speaking skills. Students may choose to meet during DIRECTED STUDY on the second Friday of each month or on Thursdays after school until 4:30PM.
Homework Club
Homework ClubRun by Ms. Woodfolk, Homework Club is an after school program where students can receive peer tutoring and assistance on their assignments. Club meets most Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:15 pm-4:35 pm in Gunston Cafeteria.
Ladies of Brookland
Ladies of Brookland club is sponsored by our School Counseling. Ladies of Brookland participate in activities that build character and make a positive contribution in school and the community. Peer Tutoring Program
Peer TutorsRun by Ms. Marshall-Lee, Peer Tutors is designed to help students achieve greater success at BMS through building strong peer relationships. Each tutor is paired with one or more student partners. Student partners may need help in a specific course or help with specific skills. Peer tutors, motivate and encourage their student partners. It is a part of Cub Institute.
Principal’s Advisory Council (Cub Pack)
The principal’s Advisory Council is sponsored by Principal Barlett. Members will have the opportunity to give input for changes and improvements at Brookland with Principal Barlett. This club is based on selection and will meet four times per year on the second Friday of the month during DIRECTED STUDY. Membership is based on selection. Please indicate your interest by signing the interest sheet in your homeroom.
SCA
Student Council Association Co-sponsored by Mr. R. Joyner and Mrs. A. Dill. Some of the activities SCA is part of is substitute bags, Christmas Mother Assembly, Thanksgiving Canned Food Drive and Assembly and the Talent Show in the Spring. SCA members have already been selected for this year, but please consider membership next year.
World Language Club
The World language club is sponsored by (TBA). Members celebrate cultures and languages around the world through multi-cultural activities and community service. Meetings will be held on the 2nd Friday of the month during DIRECTED STUDY. Additional meetings will vary. World Language Club students need to be 7th or 8th graders enrolled in Spanish, French.
Drama Club
The Drama Royals of Brookland is a theater group for students who are interested in working on stage or behind the scenes. The Drama Royals will have at least one live performance during the school year and may participate in other activities with other groups. Interested students will need to complete an audition process near the beginning of the school year and will be selected and invited to join the club. The Drama Royals will meet on most Mondays throughout the school year and several other evenings during the school year, when needed, before a performance. Other than preparing for performances, students will participate in acting games, improvisation activities, and theater skills lessons and practice. Ms. Sharmeka Williams is the adviser for the drama club.
